Berry picking and mushrooms: habitats and picking weather

Blueberry, lingonberry, cloudberry, chanterelle, bolete, funnel chanterelle — Eräkaveri highlights forest areas that suit each species' habitat and estimates picking conditions.

Berry picking starts with the right forest type

Bilberry likes fresh heath forest under spruce and pine, lingonberry drier pine heaths and thinned stands, cloudberry open mires. Chanterelle looks for light mixed forest with birch and spruce, porcini dryish heath under pine and spruce. Eräkaveri reads Finnish Forest Centre open data, such as site type, main tree species and stand age, and shades the areas that meet the chosen species' requirements.

Zones, not points

The map shows suitable forest stands as shaded areas, not symbols or exact spots. The model says the forest suits the species, not that berries are there. Yields vary from year to year, and the app never promises a harvest.

Picking weather and a private harvest log

Picking weather condenses the last weeks' rain and warmth into a per-species estimate; ripeness follows the season per species. Finds are saved in a harvest log only you can see unless you choose to share one; others then see the species, date, amount and a location accurate to about 100 m, never your name.
