Bird sightings from open observation data
Sightings come from the GBIF database, to which Finnish observation systems share openly licensed bird records. The map shows recent months' sightings per species with a species filter. Many records are coarsened for conservation reasons, so a point marks the area, not the tree.
Watchtowers and observation spots
Bird towers and known observation spots come from OpenStreetMap and appear as places on the map. Together with the sightings they tell you what has been seen from which tower lately.
Migration seasons and what the app does not do
Spring migration runs south to north in March–May and autumn migration the other way in August–October; the freshness of sightings shows where the migration is right now. Eräkaveri does not identify birds by sound or image and does not show protected nest sites.
Frequently asked questions
How recent are the sightings?
The map shows recent months' open records from GBIF. Reporting delay and update interval mean today's very latest may not show yet.
