When whitefish feed

Whitefish are fly-fished on summer evenings when midges hatch at the surface, and ice-jigged in late winter under clear ice at 3–8 m. Sea whitefish run into river mouths in autumn to spawn, when many whitefish rivers are closed. Whitefish are shy: a calm evening and a fine leader produce more.
